About the artist

Shan Dan is a contemporary artist with working across mediums. She is known for her woodblock prints, paper-cuts, New Year Prints, paintings, as well as illustrations. Born in Inner Mongolia in 1954, she attended both the Normal School of Tongliao Zelimunmeng and the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. She has received numerous awards and exhibited her work internationally. In 1998, she was honored with a solo exhibition at the China National Museum of Fine Arts. Today she is an associate professor at the Tongliao Professional Institute on Inner Mongolia. Shan Dan is a member of the Chinese Printmakers' Association, the Chinese Artists' Association, and the Chinese Art Education Seminar.
